Tips for a perfect outdoor garden chess board

Ideas on how to make your own chess board

Ideally garden blocks of 50x50cm should be used, though 40x40cm will also be sufficient. The minimum area for the board should be four square meters. An outside border where onlookers can stand a view will be a plus. A board can also be painted on existing paving - especially if bright colours need to be introduced in a recreation or public area. Alternatives to using only garden blocks or paving can be the use of grass shaped in blocks and pebbles/gravel/other ground cover plants - a feature that could make any outdoor space unique for entertaining and playing chess. A garden bench or two may add the perfect finishing touch around a chess board and turn the space into a uniquely structured area.
